Coming out of the european free improv scene, Fridolin Krön and I first met in Lucerne, Switzerland. The two of us started playing together in late 2022. Without much talking or reflecting, we went through a collaborative thought process that happened almost entirely within the music, which revealed its form very quickly. Informed by much of what was going on in the scene around us, our focus was directed towards the microscopic sounds of our instruments, and the devices and objects that surround them: breath, spit, steps, small body movements, pedal switches. Even the tiniest hand gestures assumed a dramatic scale within the sound world we were navigating. Add to that the preoccupation with rhythm, time and form, which we both shared during our working process and beyond, and you get KÖRNUNGEN, an attempt to capture all that we attuned ourselves to playing and hearing in the months of our collaboration. Recorded in late February of 2023, it marked both the conclusion of our musical "research", as well as the end of Fridolin's stay in Switzerland.
